![]() At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs. ![]() During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. Anisocoria is defined as pupil asymmetry, and may be seen with ocular or neurologic dysfunction ( Figure 1 ). Your veterinarian will use an Ultrasound to search for any possible trauma and an MRI or CT scan to look for a growth that could be the cause of the constriction. The muscarinic agent pilocarpine, both dilute (0.05-0.15) and non-dilute (1 to 2), acts on the neuromuscular junction of the pupillary constrictor to cause miosis. Causes of Constriction Of The PupilĬonstriction of the pupil may be due to inflammation, increased pressure or built up scar tissue in the eye, cancer or a tumor, or an eye disease. A dilated pupil can be tested pharmacologically. If one or both pupils appear smaller than usual or do not dilate in the light, it can be a sign of an underlying issue. These particular clinical signs seen with Horners occur due to damage to the sympathetic nerve supply to the eye: A constricted pupil that does not dilate (. ![]() It is advised to consult a veterinarian in case of constriction of the eye to determine the cause. Introduction Direct control of the pupillary musculature is deemed impossible ( Loewenfeld, 1993 ). Likely direct voluntary control of the pupillary musculature is possible. Eye-tracking, fMRI, skin conductance, and optometry exclude indirect strategies. Issues with the eye can have a great impact on your pet's vision, which is why you should never wait with taking action. A single case is able to dilate/constrict his pupil size drastically on command. Conjunctivitis would typically affect both eyes but in some cases may only affect one eye (hence why you are only seeing pupil dilation on one side). If your dog or cat has a reduced size of the eye pupil, or constriction of the pupil, it's possible it can be caused by a trauma to the eye or a systematic disease. The pupil of a dog’s eye can become dilated due to the effects of inflammation like conjunctivitis (sometimes known as pink eyes). ![]()
